Hi Parents!
Each morning your child will be offered a healthy snack. Each family in the class is responsible for shopping for the snack basket either once or twice per year. The schedule is attached and also on the **new** website (www.mayrivermontessori.com à Parent Resources, à Classroom Blogs à The Jasmine Room)!
The teachers will send the basket and shopping list home with your child on the Friday before your assigned week. The shopping list will have specific items and amounts for you to purchase over the weekend and return to school Monday morning at carpool dropoff. There are 24 children in the Jasmine room this year. Food items on the list will range from fruit, to whole wheat crackers, to individual yogurt cups. If asked to bring in whole fruit (i.e., bag of apples or melon) or a bulk item (i.e., Triscuit crackers), please keep in mind how many children are in the class. Please also know that fruit need not be cut up as it spoils faster.
For the health of the children, please refrain from purchasing foods with artificial ingredients as well as MSG, asparatame, Splenda, high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oils, food coloring, etc. Organic food is more expensive so please purchase only if you are able. Also, no juice please. The Jasmine room has a pitcher of filtered water that the children love helping themselves to.
BIRTHDAYS
When it's your child's birthday you may bring a special snack to school. Make be sure to coordinate the snack with Ms. Diane by sending a note in or calling into school at least a week in advance (Miss Diane always responds to notes left in the lunchbox!). The birthday snacks are also kept healthy (i.e. no cakes or candy). The children love things such as fruit, muffins, veggies and dip. Also, please provide special napkins or plates for your child's birthday. There is no need to send juice as same filtered water will be provided.
HOLIDAY PARTY SNACKS
If you signed up for a snack for a holiday party, the same rules apply here as do for daily and birthday snacks. There are a lot of fun ideas on the internet and Pinterest - get as creative as you can. The children love festive, healthy things!
If you have any questions at all - please call, text or email me at 732-762-5572 / [email protected].
Have a great school year everyone!
